Turning with moving centre pin within the face driver

Face drivers type FSB/SB and FSP are power-operated by thrust of the tailstock. Work pieces are clamped centrically using a moving centre pin. This way different centerings are balanced, thus ensuring a constant datum-point at the face end of the work piece.

Maximum true run-out accuracy is approx. 0.02 mm.
In order to ensure a maximum torque transmission the tailstock thrust should be adjusted in accordance with the drive pins used (see Database Face driver leaflet 1.1)

Turning with solid fixed centre pin inside face driver and enhanced accuracy

Face drivers type FFB and FFP are power-operated on the side of the machine spindle and the corresponding applied counter-force of the tailstock. The work pieces are clamped centrically by a solid fixed dead centre pin which results in high true run-out accuracy. The datum-point position is in the centre of the work piece.

Maximum true run-out accuracy is approx. 0.002-0.01mm.
The tailstock force should be 30% higher than the clamping cylinder force to ensure safe clamping.
In order to achieve maximum torque transmission, the tailstock force should be tuned in compliance with the drive pins used (see Database Face driver leaflet 1.1)
